About Our Name: The Holy House of Loreto

Our history traces back to 1954, when Mr. William Ignatius Zink, moved by the need for improved senior care, funded the original Loretto Home for the Aged on Blake Avenue. In 1962, construction began on our current village-style residence, surrounded by eight acres of land on Harvard Avenue. By 1963, under the leadership of the Sisters and support from the local community, the House of Loreto became a pioneering model for senior care in the Canton area. Over the decades, we have maintained our dedication to promoting the health, comfort, and faith-based values that distinguish us as a premiere choice for elder care in Ohio.

Our name and spirit are rooted in the Holy House of Loreto in Italy, believed to be the very home where the Holy Family lived. According to tradition, this house was miraculously transported from Nazareth to Loreto in 1295, and it has been a revered place of pilgrimage ever since. Drawing inspiration from this sacred history, we embrace a mission of hospitality, compassion, and unity. At the House of Loreto in Canton, Ohio, we seek to reflect these same virtues by offering an environment where seniors can experience the same love and respect they would find in their own homes—truly standing on the threshold of heaven as they navigate life’s later chapters.
